The Alan Moon Memorial Prize

The Alan Moon Prize is awarded to the best paper presented at the UFHRD/AHRD Annual European Conference. It consists of a memorial plaque and a cheque for £500 made payable to the winning author, or the first named author in the case of multiple authors.

Alan Moon
Alan Moon was the founding Executive Secretary of the UFHRD and the driving force behind its creation. Such was his contribution that the Forum awarded him the title and status of Executive Secretary Emeritus and life member when he retired in acknowledgement of his enormous contribution in raising the profile of HRD within Higher Education.

The Criteria for the Award of the Prize
The following criteria are used by the judging panel:

  • The paper is drawn from and has a focus on professional practice.
  • The paper has a direct and overt content detailing reflection and its outcomes.
  • The findings and conclusions of the paper have potential value and application in professional practice.
  • The research design and procedures reflect a partnership approach between academics and professional practitioners.
  • The writing is such that the paper will appeal to both academic and practitioner journals and readers.

The Judging Procedure
Stream leaders nominate a maximum of two papers from their streams. These are then considered by the members of the UFHRD Executive and Vice-Chairs who collectively constitute the judging panel. The judging panel award the prize to the paper which meets the criteria better than any other paper.

The Award of the Prize
This year this will take place during the Gala Dinner to be held at The Discovery Museum on Thursday 11 June 2009. The President of UFHRD will present the prize to the winning author.
