
Final year BA (Hons) Marketing Management student, Helen Rogers, beat off stiff competition in the Tate & Lyle Young Managers Business Challenge scooping first prize at the IGD Food Industry Awards held on October 9 2007.
Helen entered the awards for the IGD (Institute of Grocery Distribution) Industry Awards 2007 involving all major companies within the Food and Grocery industry such as Heinz, P&G, Unilever, Nestle, Mars, Asda and Sainsburys. The Tate & Lyle Young Managers Business Challenge involved writing a 3000 word report under the following topic:
"Consider the changes to regulations regarding advertising to children, and how you feel brands can maintain their profile"

Helen was successfully shortlisted and was invited to present her work to the Sales & Marketing Directors of Tate & Lyle followed by 20 minutes of questioning from the panel. Helen was invited to attend the sparkling award ceremony at London's Royal Lancaster Hotel as a guest of Tate & Lyle where it was announced that she had successfully won the award in the Young Managers Business Challenge category. Helen collected her prize of a £2500 cheque along with an engraved trophy from Chief Executives including Heinz, P&G, Sainsburys and Asda.
Helen was on her placement year working for Heinz when she entered the competition, entrants must have worked in the Food & Grocery industry for less than 5 years -
"The reason that I am most proud of this award is because I am an Undergraduate, the other finalists may have been working in the industry for just under 5 years, so I am very proud to have won this award in this category at my level of experience".
