Programme Information

 

This programme provides you with an opportunity to gain
knowledge and understanding of the full range of business and management disciplines in preparation for a career in management with multinational enterprises.


The first two years provide exposure to the main functional areas of business and related subjects. In the final year you can opt to broaden and deepen your understanding in one of those functional areas.


The programme is about developing both a theoretical knowledge of business management issues and the relevant skills. As a result there is a strong vocational emphasis with a focus on the application of knowledge in practical situations. This will enable you to develop a variety of skills in analysis, synthesis and decision - making - all of which are essential to a career in
management.


Please note: Students wishing to take a placement in the third year can transfer to BA (Hons) Business Studies.

 

Programme Content

 

Year 1


The modules studied are: International Business Environment, Business Processes and Systems, Financial Decision Making, Solving Business Problems, Management, and Directors, Shareholders and Rewards.


Year 2


Students study Global and International Business Contexts, Personal and Organisation Development, Business Performance Measurement, Marketing and Customers, Information Management and International Business Finance and Trade.


Year 3


Final year students study two core modules: Business Ethics and Strategic Management and Leadership. You also undertake a dissertation or project plus three specialist modules dependent on the pathway selected. There are six pathways available including Marketing, Human Resource Management, Finance and Entrepreneurship.

 

Coursework and Assessment

 

A variety of teaching and learning strategies are used to facilitate learning and to encourage and develop independent learning skills. The programme is assessed by a combination of examinations (both open and closed book), course assessments and a dissertation, which is completed in the final year of the programme.

 

Placement

 

There is the opportunity to undertake a year-long placement at the end of Year 2. Students get full support from the Placements Office to obtain a placement to prepare them for final year studies and future employment.

 

Professional Exemptions

 

Students following a particular specialism are able to gain
partial exemptions from the following professional bodies:


  - Marketing Pathway - Chartered Institute of Marketing
  - Logistics Pathway - Chartered Institute of Purchasing

    and Supply
  - Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport
  - HRM Pathway - Chartered Institute of Personnel and
    Development

 

Careers


Graduates from this programme have traditionally had a good first employment record in both the private and public sectors.
