Most companies have to survive in a business
environment that is international, rapidly changing and
increasingly competitive. Managing and leading such
businesses requires a special combination of knowledge
and skills, not just strategic thinking but also how to
adapt to the different cultures and business practices
throughout the world. The MA International Business
Administration programme will develop students current
business capabilities and prepare them for positions of
responsibility in modern, dynamic organisations.
Who is this programme for?
The programme is designed for students who have recently completed an undergraduate degree in business, management or a closely related discipline and who wish to continue their studies at Masters level. Such students should be aiming to join a company that has substantial international interests and receive rapid promotion to senior level. Students can choose from a variety of optional modules to develop their expertise in their chosen area of interest. The MAIBA programme attracts students from Europe, Southern Asia, Indo-China and other Asian countries, iit is international in both the classroom culture as well as the subjects being studied. To be successful on the programme, you will need enthusiasm, commitment, and a willingness to not only work hard but learn new ways of thinking. We also expect you to show initiative and be able to work independently.
Programme Structure and Content
The learning process assumes that you have expertise in a variety of business subjects and aims to deepen and broaden that expertise. At the heart of the programme is the International Management module that will expose you to the challenges faced by managers of international businesses and how these can be overcome.
Other modules develop expertise in functional areas such as Marketing and Finance while others focus on International Strategic Management and HRM. These and other modules also guide you towards the achievement of the generic postgraduate goals of strategic awareness, developing leadership potential and understanding the theory and practice of international business.
In the second semester you will be able to choose from a set of option modules and thus tailor your study to your own areas of interest. In the remainder of the programme you will complete your research and writing up of your dissertation - this is a major
opportunity to become an expert in some aspect of international business in which you have a strong interest.
Every student has a personal research supervisor and will be required to submit an assessed research proposal prior to embarking on the dissertation itself.
Career Opportunities
As this is a general management programme, graduates have joined a wide range of businesses, in a variety of positions. The business is usually a large multinational or a smaller business with import/export links to a number of countries. Some graduates have gone back to work for a family business or started up their own businesses.
