A Wide Variety of Programmes

 

Newcastle Business School is particularly experienced at developing completion awards aimed at students like you
with sub-degree qualifications such as a Foundation degree or HND. Most of our completion awards take one year to complete (full time) which means that, just months from entering university, you could be walking away with a recognised business degree.

Students with the appropriate qualifications may also gain entry with advanced standing to our other business degree courses and with such a wide variety available, you're bound to find a programme that matches
your particular goals and ambitions.

 

Logistics and Supply Chain Management - Programme Information


The UK's top ten food retailers have voted Logistics and Supply Chain Management as their most vital management area. This degree studies the whole field of supply chain management including Buying, Inventory Control, Supplier Development, Customer Service, Logistics and Distribution. It also encourages the development of functional expertise and skills as well as the understanding of the strategic significance of the supply chain philosophy.


The aim of the programme is to develop students who enter with a diploma level qualification in business and who wish to further their career in the field of Logistics and Supply Chain Management.

Coursework and Assessment

 

The programme includes a wide variety of teaching and learning strategies including lectures and seminars, workbooks and other open learning approaches, hands-on training, case studies and role play, directed learning, visits and visiting speakers, problem-solving sessions, student presentations, consultancy exercises and in-depth live company investigations.


Student formal tuition time is approximately 10-15 hours in Semester One and slightly less in Semester Two. However, this time is supplemented by private study time managed by the student. Assessment is mainly by assignment and case study project. The supervised project, normally 10,000 words in length, will focus
on a business related topic with a supply chain theme.

 

Overseas Students

 

Overseas students are warmly welcomed onto this programme. Logistics is extremely important in a global context and, as a result, international career opportunities are excellent.

 

Accreditation


Graduates of this programme will obtain a partial or full
membership of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply and full or partial exemption from the academic requirement for membership of the Chartered Institute of Logistics, dependent on the modules taken.


Students are expected to get involved in the local professional institute programmes whilst on the programme.

 

Careers

 

Career prospects are excellent with opportunities in Buying, Purchasing and Procurement, Inventory Management and Control, Forecasting and Planning, Distribution, Transport, Warehousing, Supplier Development, Customer Service, Supply Chain Analysis,
Logistics Planning and Operations, Production Control and Operations Management.


Former graduates have found employment in organisations such as Unilever, Nissan, Wellstream and Cumbria County Council.
