The full time NBS PhD programme has been officially recognised for its excellence by the Economic and Social Research Council.
This recognition is testament to the development of a strong and supportive PhD community and the integration of students into the wider research culture of NBS.
As PhD Programme Director, one of Dr Janice McMillan's main roles is to provide a high quality experience for doctoral graduates from recruitment through to graduation.
As she explains: "Provision of such an experience includes student development and support, both academic and pastoral, through several routes including research training, soft skills training, progression management and personal and programme development."
NBS doctoral graduates have moved on to a variety of successful and high profile positions worldwide. Many maintain their link to NBS in their chosen careers through corporate and research links.
"We welcome applications in the broad areas of International Business, Leadership and Management Development and Business and Management Practice," Janice continues.
"We are always happy to discuss a potential candidate's research interests and look forward to working with them towards successful doctoral study."
Two recently completed doctorates have examined key issues in the broad areas of performance and HRD. The work of Dr Truls Engstrom is of particular significance to HR practitioners through his exploration of identity and individual determinants of mentoring success. Dr Martyna Silwa's work also has relevance for HR professionals through her exploration of service quality measurement in the NHS.
