Graduate Tutor, Stephanie Macht wins impressive award

Stephanie Macht, Newcastle Business School (NBS) Graduate Tutor was awarded the Small Business Service Award for Best 'Newcomer' Paper* (£1,000 prize) at the 29th International Conference of the Institute for Small Business and Entrepreneurship in Cardiff last month.

* Awarded for the best paper by someone who has not presented a paper at an ISBE Conference before.

Stephanie's paper 'The Post-Investment Impact of Business Angels upon their Investee Companies' was also nominated for best paper in the Venture Capital & Micro-Finance for Small Businesses Stream. The paper draws upon research from Stephanie's PhD supervised by John Robinson.

This is a great achievement for a first conference where there were 199 presenters.

Stephanie commented on her achievement:

"I was absolutely thrilled when I heard that my paper had been nominated for two awards at my first conference! That in itself was such a great feeling, but actually winning the award absolutely overwhelmed me.

Winning this award has given me more confidence about my research, knowing that it is academically viable and also that the Small Business Service as a practitioner body believes that the results can be useful for them. On top of that, receiving a cash prize was a fantastic bonus!"
