Twins Get Sure Start in Child Care with NBS

Students and staff at Newcastle Business School (NBS) were seeing double at a graduation ceremony recently, as twins Samantha and Claire Roberts received their diplomas on completion of a custom designed course in Management Development for those managing in the Child Care sector.

28 year old Samantha and Claire, from Haltwhistle in Northumberland were presented with their diplomas at Newcastle City Hall, along with 30 other staff working with Sure Start Northumberland and Early Education (SSNEE), helping to coordinate the provision of child care for the families of Northumberland.

The hardworking sisters together managed to complete the one year course to further their key management skills as part of their work jointly managing the Little Star Nursery, in Haltwhistle.

NBS is committed to creating bespoke courses, designed to fit the educational and training needs of employers and organisations across the country. Working in partnership with SSNEE, the team at NBS was able to create a course specifically for those working to coordinate child care in the Northumberland area.

Samantha commented,

"Both Claire and I are very committed to the work we do at the Little Star Nursery. As we jointly manage the business, it seemed the natural choice to take part in the diploma course together.

The course itself was hard work but very rewarding thanks to the ongoing support from staff and students at NBS. Claire and I were able to attend our classes together and have built up a sound knowledge of management practice, with a strong focus on leadership development.

I'm very proud of our joint achievements over the past year, we can now return to the Little Star Nursery well equipped to deal with any new initiatives in the childcare industry and provide a better service to the children and families of Northumberland."

Sandra Corlett, Principal Lecturer at NBS devised the one year course after a period working closely with SSNEE to ensure full understanding of their educational needs. The course involved an assessment of all training required by the various course applicants looking to maximise on the key management skills necessary to running childcare institutions across the region.

Sandra said,

"NBS is committed to providing customized courses designed to fit the needs of differing industries and individuals. The Management Development Diploma was specifically tailored for staff at Sure Start Northumberland and Early Education to assist them in their continued support of childcare providers and has proved to be a fantastic success, with a new intake of students expected in September.

I'd like to congratulate both Samantha and Claire and the staff of SSNEE for their hard work and commitment in ensuring that this course was a success and we hope to see them again for further opportunities with NBS."
